Making Exercise Fun

Are you wanting to exercise and cannot find the motivation?

You do exercise and you constantly feel like stopping?

Exercise is just plain boring?

That’s ok… you’re not the only one who feels this way. However, this does not mean you need to stop what you are doing or just live in a state of being bored with your workouts.

There are many ways you can find a little bit more motivation or fun when you are exercising.

Get a partner:

Find a friend or group of friends to join you at the gym. Pick someone who is motivated to improve their own health. They can help hold you accountable and keep you going to the gym. You will be more likely to get to your workouts if someone is waiting for you at the gym.

Join/start a challenge:

A workout challenge can help you stay motivated and give you a reward system to finishing a workout. Set up a chart and give yourself a reward like a sticker every time you finish a workout. Have the challenge end with a big reward in the end.

Reward yourself:

Yes I get it, exercise is the reward. Sometimes we need a little bit more motivation. Give yourself a little something for finishing your exercises for the day. Put a $1 in a jar and at the end of the month your reward is taking yourself out or buying an article of clothing.

Sign up for an event:

Events are great because it gives you an end goal. It gives you a time limit to get ready and it gives you something fun and enjoyable as the pay off. Make the event something that is a challenge for you and will push you out of your comfort zone.

Do something you enjoy:

Do you love walking your dogs? How about a nature hike? Maybe you like taking your kids roller skating. As long as it gets you active it is exercise. If we enjoy doing it we are more likely to do more of it. Find an activity that does not feel like it is work and do more of that.

There are some of us who love to exercise and workout, there are some who do not enjoy it as much. Keep in mind, exercise does not have to be boring. There are many different ways we can make exercise fun and exciting. How do you make it fun for you?
